Book Selection Process
Nomination and Voting:
To ensure fairness, we use a spinner—a random selection tool—to help determine our next book. Instead of picking books manually, the spinner randomly selects five books, creating a shortlist, which then go to a vote.
All books marked as “In Rotation” on the book selection list are automatically included in the spinner. To find our rules for adding books to this list, please follow this link: book selection list rules. If you add a book to the list and it is marked as “In Rotation,” it will be eligible for selection when we run the spinner for the next vote.
The Voting Process
Once the spinner randomly selects a five-book shortlist, we hold a Discord poll to decide the next book.
- Members vote on one of the five books from the shortlist to determine our next read.
- The poll remains open for three days to allow everyone time to participate.
- The book with the most votes is chosen as our next read.
- Please vote! Your input helps shape our reading list and ensures everyone feels involved in the selection process.
- A new vote will be held during the last week of the current read.
This system ensures a mix of randomness and democracy in our book selection!
Tiebreakers
- If there is a tie, we will hold a 24-hour tiebreaker poll.
- If there is still a tie after this, one of the tied books will be randomly selected.
Timeline:
- We always select our next full-length book one book in advance, so that there’s no gap between reads.
The book selection process (spinner + voting) takes place during the interim reading week, right after we finish the previous book, and determines what we’ll read after the next one.
