Book Leader

The person who nominated the chosen book becomes the book club leader for that read. If you’d rather not lead, just let us know in #book-selection and someone else will step in. book club leaders are not necessarily experts (though they can be). primarily, they should just be someone who is excited to facilitate conversation.

Everyone will likely get a turn eventually, so you’re encouraged to pay attention to what kinds of discussion styles you enjoy!

Leader Responsibilities

  • Pre-Reading Session:
    • Supplemental Materials: As the leader, you’ll gather relevant materials (articles, videos, historical context, author interviews, etc.) to help everyone better understand the book’s themes, background, or style.
      • Try to share links or uploads before the session so members have time to prepare. If not, presenting during the session works too!
    • Discussion Questions: Bring 2–3 discussion prompts. These can be general (e.g., “What are you most excited to read?” or “What do you know about this book?”) or specific to the book’s content if you’re familiar with it.
  • Facilitating Book Club Meetings:
    • Lead discussions, ensuring everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts.
    • Prepare talking points, like key passages, notable themes, or questions that stood out to you.
    • Feel free to make connections to other works, personal experiences, or broader ideas.
  • Reading Schedule:
    • Set the pace for reading the book.
    • If you’re unsure, consult members during the pre-reading session to decide what works best for everyone.
