How It Works
Opt-In & Thematic Prompts
- Anyone who wants to participate must sign up before a circle session begins.
- Each round, we’ll provide a few prompts or target themes based on books we’ve read in the club. These serve as inspiration and are very broad and open-ended, so writers can interpret them however they like and have full creative freedom!
- Writers will have a set timeframe (e.g., 1.5 months) to draft their pieces. Once this month is over, groups will have a set timeframe (e.g., 2 weeks) to read and respond to each other’s work.
Submission Limits & Guidelines:
- No required word count – write as little as you want.
- But there is a word limit! Your piece should be no longer than what fits in 20 standard pages (approximately 10,000 words).
- It doesn’t have to be a short story! Participants can submit:
- Fiction (short stories, flash fiction, epics)
- Poetry
- Scripts/screenplays
- Essays or creative nonfiction
- Any other short-form piece that fits within the word limit.
This keeps the challenge flexible and open to different forms of storytelling while maintaining a reasonable length for feedback.
